Support the fight against vascular disease
Donations
The Vascular Biology Institute strives to provide the highest standard of patient care possible for South Floridians with the best physicians, technology, and treatments available by fostering an expedited “bench to bedside” program in key areas of cardiovascular, kidney, lung, limb, and eye programs. Several programs; in particular those related to limb disease and claudication, diabetes, and hypertension; are close to clinical applications. These new treatments will affect the health and lives of thousands of patients here in South Florida as well as elsewhere around the world. Many of these programs have strong funding through the U.S. Department of Health but additional support is needed to promote the clinical application and rapid translation to patient care. If you are interested, please contact the Vascular Biology Institute’s central office and set up an appointment to visit the Institute and learn more about the programs as well as its philosophy and goals. Gene and stem cell technologies are changing the face of medicine and the Vascular Biology Institute offers supporters and donors an opportunity to be a part of this change. Some examples of support avenues are listed below.
Physician-Scientist Development Grant
Physician-Scientists are practicing clinicians who wish to combine medical practice with research in their specialty. The combination of skills allows for an optimal translation of basic science (e.g. gene engineering of stem cells) to patient care (e.g. delivering the engineered stem cells to patients). Physician-Scientists of only the highest caliber work within the Vascular Biology Institute directly under a research director (professor) and a clinical director (senior physician). The VBI runs a program of Physician-Scientists in each of our areas of specialty, cardiovascular, kidney, lung, diabetes and eye. This program can be supported at multiple levels in any specialty and we will return high profile recognition to the donor.
Endowed Chairs
Endowed chairs provide support for program directors. The endowment allows the director to focus exclusively on the specific research and/or clinical program and provide direction to the team. Only the best scientists obtain endowed chairs so their availability allows us to attract the most talented and high profile scientists. Again high recognition is given to the donor and the chair usually has the name of the donor as part of its title, recognized in all publications and communications.
Program Support
All programs and projects within the Vascular Biology Institute can be sponsored. If you have a genetic predisposition to diabetes, heart, kidney, or limb disease, if you experience angina, chest pain, or leg pains, or if you are interested in the broad therapeutic applications of stem cells, we invite you to contact us and discuss how you could become a part of the Miami Vascular Biology Institute; support the growth of new medicine and put South Florida on the map as a center of excellence for the treatment of vascular disease.
