Introduction and Mission Statement

Scientific research programs in the University of Miami Vascular Biology Institute are focused on key areas of heart, kidney, lung, and eye disease. Teams of scientists with clinical and research backgrounds work to identify novel disease targets and create new therapies using state-of-the-art molecular genetics, cell biology, and biotechnology. Our approach to the treatment of blood and vascular disease incorporates new concepts related to regenerative medicine and all programs have strong discovery and translational components involving cell and molecular biology particularly the use of stem cells in disease treatments.

The Vascular Biology Institute has close ties with Jackson Memorial Hospital, the Miami VA Medical Center, Bascom-Palmer Eye Institute, and the Diabetes Research Institute and we are uniquely organized to optimize the translation of research from preclinical studies to patient trials.

Our goal is to establish an independently funded regenerative medical center for vascular disease in South Florida and to be an international leader in the areas of gene and cellular therapeutics focusing on vascular disease.
